As a newborn and family photographer it is a privilege to be invited to a family’s home during the first few days of the new baby’s arrival. This time is usually a little overwhelming. Every member is adjusting to this new arrangement.
The Holmes family asked me to document this time for them. The family were welcoming their third baby, and first girl, to their tight little unit. Baby Sophie’s arrival was an exciting time for her two older brothers and her doting parents. I was lucky to be present to capture some of this excitement with a newborn photo session for them.
When I arrived the boys were on their second breakfast in preparation for the hour or so we would be capturing some images. Baby Sophie was sound asleep in her amazing restored vintage pram. You will see it in some of the photos below. It’s incredible! The boys were soon comfortable with me and I asked them to show me to the master bedroom. Here the family could hang out together on the bed while I captured them being together. Sophie’s brothers are fascinated by her and were more than willing to kiss and cuddle her for a few minutes.
Of course being young boys their concentration waned a little after a while. This is a great opportunity for me though as I get a chance to capture them just being themselves, playing with Dad or chatting to Mum. I relish in this part of a family session because it means I get to capture children in their own world which makes for some authentic moments.
Looking over the images during editing I was struck by how a family adapts to welcome a new member. It happens so quickly that one minute you’re a family of four and the next a family of five, as if she has always been there.
Enjoy some of Sophie’s newborn session below, it is full of joy and beautiful family moments. If this type of session is something you would love for your own family or as a gift for someone you love please get in touch, I would love to chat with you about it.
